Cooking Along the Silk Road

Spring 2014
1:00 – 2:00
ages 8+, 10+

This study group may run later than 2:00 on the cooking days.

Travel the historical Silk Road through cooking and hands-on projects as we learn about the exchange of goods, ideas and foods between the regions along the Silk Road. When we study China, we’ll make steamed dumplings. India brings us to some exotic spices, and we’ll make our own curry spice mix and cook up a vegetable curry. When we discuss the contributions of Rome, we’ll make hand-rolled pasta and gremolata (the recipes may change, but this gives you an idea of what to expect). You’ll get a chance to role-play and trade for the ingredients to make rice pudding. Other hands-on projects and explorations of the history and importance of the Silk Road will be included as well.

Designed for children ages 8 and up and/or who can:

  • listen quietly and discuss the information presented
